The Quirks of ADHD - The Ramblings #1

I wanted my first post to be quirky and fun because why bother with the name in the first place? However, as I stared at this blank digital piece of paper, more than anything I realized I wanted to be honest. Having Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can be beautiful in its own way, but many times it's hard. It can be really frustrating and sometimes I wish I didn't have it at all. At times, it feels that no one understands the difficulty of balancing life when it seems like your brain just doesn't want to cooperate with your goals. Having a brain that is in the ADHD setting can make the simplest things feel so much harder. Such as relationships, financial health, and physical health. The list can go on and on.

The best way to describe my particular style of ADHD is the Disney movie "UP". You know the dog Dug?  How he would stop in the middle of a conversation to scream "squirrel"! Poor Doug. That's me all day long.  And then, after I acknowledge, that yes a squirrel just ran by, I segue into Dory, the Disney character from the movie Nemo. Like, "What the heck was I doing again?" Oh, the joy of it all.

At the end of the day, as difficult as having ADHD can feel I want to leave my first post saying if you have ADHD, you are not stupid. You are not lazy.  You just think differently. And that is okay and in many ways beautiful. We are good enough and can accomplish more than anyone around us can imagine. So head up, chest out, and go conquer. Squirrel!
